What's in Vega One?

Why do you use stevia extract in the formula for Vega One?

We have yet to find another no-calorie, natural sweetener that does not add sugars to the nutritional profile and is not a sugar alcohol or chemical derivative. We believe stevia is the best choice in line with the Guiding Principles of Vega. Customers sensitive to stevia can continue to choose Natural and Chocolate for lower stevia content.

Why do you use inulin in the formula for Vega One?

Inulin is an effective prebiotic fibre source that ensures probiotics flourish. Inulin also increases the absorption of calcium and magnesium.

Are the ingredients in Vega One non-GMO?

As always, we work with our suppliers to source ingredients that are not genetically modified. As the non-GMO certification process is still relatively new—and cost prohibitive, especially to smaller scale, cooperative farmers of crops like SaviSeed (Sacha inchi)—very few ingredient suppliers have officially certified non-GMO status. Without the official certification of ingredient suppliers—even if the ingredients they produce are actually non-GMO—we cannot list the non-GMO status of each ingredient on the label. Our long-term goal is to work toward 100% certification so that we can communicate this on-pack.

Are the ingredients in Vega One organic?

To certify all ingredients can be cost prohibitive to some of the smaller famers we work with, however we choose ingredients that are organic, non-GMO and pesticide-free where we can.

How much of Vega One is certified organic?

The only certified organic ingredients in Vega One are maca and the kale in the green blend.

How much of Vega One is raw?

The only ingredients in Vega One that can be considered raw are the green blend, the hemp and the chlorella.

What's in Vega One that makes it so expensive?

Like the saying goes, "you get what you pay for." We consider Vega One "valuable" rather than expensive. Vega One was made without compromises using the cleanest, least processed, whole-food-derived ingredients we can find. Ranging from $3 to $3.50 per serving (depending on flavor), Vega One may be one of the more expensive nutritional shakes on the market, but it's still less expensive than many convenience alternatives—even a designer coffee and muffin costs more than a serving of Vega One. Far better for you—and the planet—than most alternatives, you get 50% of your daily intake of vitamins and minerals, 15 g protein, 6 g fiber, 1.5 g Omega-3, anitoxidants, probiotics, greens, plus 500 mg of chlorella and 1000 mg of maca in every serving of Vega One.

Additionally, if you purchased all of the supplements included in Vega One separately (including a multivitamin and mineral supplement, Omega-3 supplement, antioxidant supplement, probiotic supplement, digestive enzyme supplement, greens supplement, protein supplement and fiber supplement, plus chlorella and maca), you’d probably spend more than you would on the equivalent amounts in Vega One.

Are the probiotics in Vega One dairy-free?

Yes, the probiotics in Vega One are dairy-free. The Probiotic Blend in Vega One includes Lactobacillus acidophilus La-14 and Bifidobacterium bifidum Bb-02.

How do you keep the flax seed in Vega One from going bad?

Our flax seed goes through a proprietary flash pasteurization process that inactivates the enzymes that cause rancidity while preserving the nutrient content.

General Vega One FAQs

How does Vega One taste?

It tastes great! We use only the finest natural flavorings and highest quality stevia for minimal aftertaste and a nice round sweetness. Compared to Vega Whole Food Health Optimizer, Vega One has much improved taste and mouthfeel. With Vega One, you may not get as much flavor as non-plant-based whey protein shakes may offer, but you also won't get any artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners either. Even our Natural flavor tastes good on its own, as it has a bit of vanilla flavor and stevia also.

Why are there 24 servings in the large tub of Natural flavor of Vega One and only 20 servings in the chocolate and berry flavors?

There are more servings in the Natural flavor because its serving size is smaller than the serving sizes of other flavors, therefore, more servings fit in the tub. You get the same nutritional value as the other flavors, without the volume added by the natural flavorings. The Natural flavor provides the best value as it is the same price as the other flavors but gives you 4 extra servings per container!
